Another Year for the Books
2017 was an amazing year of watching God work through FRUIT. magazine! We would like to share some of those moments with you and some of our plans for 2018. We hope you will celebrate with us because YOU are such an important part of this ministry! God is working and we are honored to serve Him along side of you.
STOLLER GRANT: One of the most exciting things that happened in 2017 was receiving a $70,000 grant from the Stoller Foundation! This grant will help us grow the ministry in several ways. It will enable us to make our Executive Director position full-time and to hire a part-time assistant. This will help us get the magazine out more regularly, to focus more on donor development, to increase correspondence with our readers, to increase our distribution to new cities and states, and to begin several new initiatives. These initiatives include: 1. FRUIT. release parties. These parties will be an opportunity for youth to meet and hear from people featured in the current issue of FRUIT. It will also serve as an opportunity to share the Gospel. 2. FRUIT. magazine Clubs. These clubs will meet once a month and use the current issue of FRUIT. for discussion topics to dig deeper into the content and provide more personal application. The third and final session of each FRUIT. club will be focused on sharing the Gospel and teaching how to share the Gospel. 3. Custom FRUIT. magazines. We will be offering organizations the opportunity to customize FRUIT. magazine for their location/organization. This will include changing the current resource list to a local list, allowing the organization to write their own devotional, and providing spaces in the magazine for them to place local sponsorships to help with the cost of ordering FRUIT. While this grant is HUGE in helping us reach many of our goals, we still need to raise $70,000 this year to meet our budget. This is a large number, but we know GOD is able!
OTHER COMMUNITY PARTNERS: We met with several organizations who have expressed interest in partnering with us. These meetings have resulted in the possibility of FRUIT. being distributed to juvenile facilities in California and the east coast. We have also met with several prison ministries to try and find a sponsor to provide FRUIT to some of the prison units housing minors who have been sentenced as adults. We still have a wonderful relationship with the amazing organization, Youth For Christ. Through this relationship we began distributing FRUIT. magazine to juvenile facilities in Colorado, Kansas, Idaho, Ohio, and Wyoming in 2017. Please pray as we continue to cultivate these partnerships and bring FRUIT. to kids all across the US!
GREAT FEATURES FOR 2018: Our feature line-up for 2018 is looking fantastic! We will start with a feature on the rapper missionary, Sevin. Sevin came from living homeless on the streets of Sacramento, California due to deep involvement in gangs to being a Christian missionary who chooses to remain homeless and single so he can travel the country, using his gifts of rapping, singing, and teaching to share the hope of Christ with people in some of the toughest areas in the country. The next issue will be featuring the world renowned human rights lawyer, Bryan Stevenson. His “Ted Talks” is one of the most watched since the series began and he was one of the main speakers at the 2017 Global Leadership Summit. He is a fierce advocate for juvenile rights in our country. He is a phenomenal role model for our youth! We are confident that our other features will be just as exciting for our readers.
These are just a few of the amazing things God is doing through your gifts and contributions to Freestyle Ministries. The kids are constantly asking for the magazine in the facilities and we are thrilled that we will now be able to publish more regularly and build deeper relationships with them. We can’t wait to see what surprises God has in store for us in 2018 and look forward to celebrating those victories with you!
